Lane closures expect on I-40 starting Monday

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — If you use I-40 during the week, you might experience some delays.

Starting Monday, I-40 near mile marker 414 will have intermittent lane closures. The Department of Transportation will be inspecting various sections of the bridge over CSX railroad tracks.

The lane closures will take place Monday through Thursday. They will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end each day by 3:30 p.m.

“We live in a harsh environment with cold winters and hot summers. This is why we examine every component of the bridge,” said Bridge Maintenance Engineer Ron Vancleef. 

The D.O.T. says there will be no detour routes but travelers should expect delays.

The D.O.T. says the Federal Highway Administration requires bridges to be inspected every two years.
