Lanes on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge to close overnight

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – Starting Sunday night, lanes on the Cape Fear Memorial bridge will close for repairs.

Work will begin at 9 p.m. and end at 5 a.m.

On Sunday night, crews will repair areas of the metal deck damaged from changes in weather and from wear and fatigue. The D.O.T. says the rest of the deck will be inspected and repairs made as needed.

This work will require intermittent lane closures, with at least one lane remaining open in each direction.

Then on Monday night through Thursday morning, crews will inspect and repair bridge cables.

The D.O.T. says this means all inbound lanes to Wilmington will CLOSE from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. Those lanes will reopen in time for the morning commute.

The westbound lanes will remain open.

During these closures, drivers are advised to detour and take the Thomas Rhodes Bridge and then cross over the Isabel Holmes Bridge.
