WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The bracket for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament will be released on Sunday. One thing’s for sure, Coastal Carolina for the second year in a row will be dancing. This means for the second year in a row former Laney Buccaneer guard Elijah Wilson will get to be on center stage in the national spotlight.
Last year the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers did not have to travel very far to play their first round game in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. The Chanticleers lost to Virginia in Raleigh. For Laney High School graduate Elijah Wilson it was an experience of a lifetime. This season Coastal Carolina is back. Once again they won the Big South Conference Tournament, and once again Wilmington’s Elijah Wilson is a huge part of Coastal’s success on the court. In fact last Sunday Wilson was named the Big South Tournament MVP. “Being named tournament MVP is really an accomplishment,” Elijah Wilson told WWAY on Thursday. “I don’t have any words to describe it.”
Wilson has primarily been a starter for Coastal Carolina until the last few weeks, but for some reason or another, coming off the bench not only ignited Wilson, it ignited the whole team as well. “I don’t think coming off the bench is what’s making me productive. I think it’s more of finding a rhythm and getting into a groove. We as a program are really fortunate to have this opportunity and we’re really enjoying it and we’ll try to make the most of it and tomorrow we start practice and we’ll start getting ready for the NCAA’s for whoever we get selected to play on Sunday, so we’re really happy about this opportunity.”
Coastal Carolina will find out their opponent on Sunday evening when the bracket is released.
