Leland warns of possible smoky conditions due to large burns

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Don’t be surprised by a lot of smoke in and around Leland in the near future.

In the next few days and possibly weeks, construction sites will be doing large burns in Leland.

According to the Town of Leland, one will be at the Harrington Village project on Village Road, the other is the site next to Walmart, where a self-storage facility and hotel are being built.

Smoke will be at its heaviest in the morning hours and will dissipate later in the day.

Leland Fire and Rescue does not regulate open burning in our area. Questions may be directed to NC Forestry Service and NC Air Quality.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this story had information about a live burn scheduled for February. That information came from a post on the Town of Leland’s website that was incorrect. We apologize for any confusion.
