NEW DETAILS: Car crash damaged tombstones in Bladen County, not vandalism

COUNCIL, NC (WWAY) — Tombstones that were damaged at a cemetery in Bladen County were the result of a car accident and not vandalism, according to the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office.

On Sunday, the sheriff’s office received a report of damage to the tombstones at Mt. Horeb Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Approximately 8 to 10 tombstones were damaged or turned over.

The cemetery is located at the intersection of Highway 87 and Lisbon Road in Council.

The sheriff’s office now says the damage is the result of an accident reported in March to the NC Highway Patrol. The damage has already been taken care of by the insurance company. The people who reported the damage was not aware that this had occurred in March.
