Law Enforcement Officers Ready for Party Weekend
North Carolina Highway Patrol officers say the roads this weekend may well be more dangerous than New Years Eve.
Troopers will be running saturation patrols, meaning plenty of troopers patrolling heavily traveled roads, pulling drivers they think could be drunk. Checkpoints will also be set up randomly throughout the weekend and on New Year’s Eve.
First Sgt. J.O. Holmes of the Highway Patrol says “if we tell them where they are then they are going to avoid that area and only the honest people will come through there. So we try and move them around and shake things up a little bit and keep it a surprise.”
Last year there were no deadly car accidents caused by alcohol in southeast North Carolina.
Officers hope those statistics remain that way this New Year’s Eve.
