Lawsuit No. 6 filed to block Charlotte stadium

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – For the sixth time, a North Carolina attorney has filed a lawsuit to block a minor-league baseball team from building a new stadium in downtown Charlotte.

The Charlotte Observer reports that attorney Jerry Reese’s newest lawsuit alleges Mecklenburg County officials failed to get financial information from the Charlotte Knights to help evaluate whether the team could afford to build a stadium.

Reese has unsuccessfully filed five other lawsuits to try to stop the stadium and other related downtown deals. He has said he doesn’t oppose a baseball stadium in downtown Charlotte, but instead calls for a major-league ballpark.

A statement from the team said it expects Reese’s latest lawsuit will be thrown out and to break ground on the new ballpark in October.
