Legend Hawk surprises Wilmington skaters

Imagine you’re a basketball player heading out to your favorite court on a Sunday afternoon, and you find Michael Jordan there shooting hoops. That’s what happened to skaters in Wilmington yesterday, who found Tony Hawk at the Greenfield Lake Skate Park.

“I still love doing it as much as ever,” Hawk said. “I’m just excited that I get to still be here enjoying it with everyone like this.”

The skating legend was in town this weekend for the Run for Ray benefit in memory of pro skater Ray Underhill, who passed away from cancer. A simple skate session for Hawk gave kids a memory they wont soon forget.

“I asked him if he could jump a passage over there from bowl to bowl,” fan T.J. Buren said. “He did it. It was awesome.”

Hawk lives, works and plays in Southern California. In addition to being a professional skater, Hawk focuses heavily on the Tony Hawk Foundation, which raises money to build parks for kids throughout the country.
