Leland Police officer shot in the line of duty retires
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Flags have been lowered to mark May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day, held in honor of federal, state and local officers killed or disabled in the line of duty.
Leland Police Department honored one of their own for his service Tuesday as he retires from the department. Officer Jacob Schwenk was shot multiple times in the line of duty in December 2016.
Officer Schwenk was responding to a suspicious person call on Bridgeport Way in the Windsor Park subdivision on December 9 when the suspect opened fire. Police say that man, Brent Quinn, died in the shooting.

Leland Police Department gave Officer Schwenk a retirement plaque and offered best wishes.
The department posted on Facebook:
“Leland Police Department would like to take this opportunity to honor Officer Jacob Schwenk who was recently recognized for his outstanding service to our community. Please join us in thanking Officer Schwenk and wishing him all the best in his retirement.”
