Leland residents discover glass in dog park
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A pair of Leland residents are trying to spread the word, after one has been finding glass shards at the Town Creek Park dog park for a span of five weeks now.
Bill Bosley said he’s a regular at the dog park, but recently discovered the glass when his dog, Cooper, brought him a piece of glass while in the park. Since then, Bosley said he’s been looking for more glass each time he visits with his dogs.
“As I came back to the park, which I do three or four times a week, I made it a habit just to look,” Bosley said. “Every time I came back, I’d probably find between seven and 12 pieces of glass shards.”
Bosley told his neighbor, Ruth McKee, about the glass a couple days ago, and she called park services and let others know through a neighborhood app.
McKee told WWAY park employees were very responsive and checked the park within an hour of her calling.
Both residents say they love having the park and want to encourage others to keep it safe and clean.
“Most of the dogs that come here are rescued animals, they trust us, and they’re mostly just beautiful, trusting dogs; so who would want to do that?” Bosley said.
A Brunswick County Spokeswoman told WWAY the park’s maintenance crew has started to sweep the dog park area every morning, to check for glass, and will continue to do so.
