Leland Town leaders host open house for new town hall
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — After millions of dollars spent and months of work the new Leland Town Hall was open to guests Thursday.
Sonja Perkins, a Leland resident said the new town hall was more than she ever could have imagined.
“I didn’t really know what to expect. I am just overly impressed it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s so spacious with all of the different rooms. We are just in awe of it really,” said Perkins.
It took many months and millions of dollars for this building to be what it is today. All the costs associated with this project came out to $12 million.
Leland Town Manager David Hollis said they broke ground three years ago.
“It’s been a long time coming. It’s a good day,” said Hollis.
After a dispute with a contractor after the building was built they had to move forward with another contractor.
“We got to a point with that contractor that they weren’t performing like they should they had some issues with the building. We released that contractor and hired a new one and they finished the job for us and it looks really great,” said Hollis.
Perkins said the finished product was worth it.
“I think it’s wonderful. I think its past time. We are glad it’s here and we are just happy to be part of this community,” said Perkins.
Thursday night the town council held their first council meeting in the new town hall.
Hollis said they are still working on getting their computer system up so employees won’t be moved in until mid to late August.
