Leland will not buy VFW building
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Leland’s Town Council says they will not be buying a vacant VFW building. During their discussion tonight council said they just didn’t have the $200 thousand to spend on a building.
Folks got up to say their part as well telling council there just wasn’t enough need for the building. Town Manager David
Hollis got an email from someone suggesting that the town buy the former VFW building and turn it into a community center for veterans. Folks at the meeting say the council made the right choice.
“I think so. For what they are looking at, yes. I mean I would love for them to buy the place but financially it wasn’t a sound move on their part if they did,” said Joe Stanley, District 5 Commander of VFW.
The VFW chapter in Leland folded after issues there. The chapter merged with the Wilmington chapter of the organization.
