Leland against crime

Tonight more than 10,000 communities across the country are participating in National Night out Against Crime.

The town of Leland got an early start to the event.

It began its national night out at 3:00 p.m. today behind town hall.

The event’s purpose is to raise awareness of crime and drug prevention for adults and kids.

Leland Police Dept Corporal Robert Ernest said, “For the children we have 3 blow up rides, slides, obstacle course, bouncy pit, we also have local vendors on hand to offer child I.D. kits. We actually have a retired FBI group here doing it which we’re proud to have them here.”

The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Department also participated in National Night Out. It displayed illegal drugs to help make drug identification easier.
