Leland food bank donations down
Food donations are down, and several churches and organizations in Brunswick County are coming together to help.
Volunteers said less people are donating food because of the increasing costs of groceries, gas and utilities.
That means helping fewer needy families.
Even when donations are plentiful, people have to go to Shallotte to get what they need. That is why volunteers are creating food donation and pick up locations in Leland.
Jay Merritt of Victory Church said, “We’re trying to make a whole community campaign and awareness so that everyone in the whole area can be working together know that the problem exists and together, together we can help people out.”
The food drive starts this Saturday at the Leland Founders Day event near town hall in Leland.
You can also donate anytime at Victory Church in Leland. Families in need can pick up the food Saturday, September 20th at the church.
