Leland man sentenced Monday after fleeing country

The Leland man who fled to Central America last year while on trial in Brunswick County faces a judge Monday morning.

Brian Perry was on trial in December for statutory rape, indecent liberties with a child and possession of a firearm by a felon. The jury found him guilty, but Perry left the country while the trial was still in progress. He was found in Belize earlier this month and returned to the County jail Friday night.

He will be sentenced Monday.
