Lewis sworn in again to bench
BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — A special day for a judge in Brunswick County. Ola Lewis took the oath to begin a new term on the superior court bench.
Lewis was the first female African-American district court judge in North Carolina, and is one of only two female African-American superior court judges in North Carolina.
Kay Alison Duncan, a judge on the Fourth Circuit Court of appeals and the highest ranking federal judge in the state swore in lewis. Duncan taught Lewis in law school.
“For over 20 years you have offered guidance, encouragement and inspiration,” Lewis told Duncan. “You are indeed a role model for many.”
Lewis is known for her innovative night court and drug treatment court.
