‘Life saving’ dogs graduate paws4people program

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — paws4people hosted their fifth annual event to celebrate the hard work of their clients, students and of course their dogs.

47 of these pups have passed their public access training and tests and have now graduated from the program.

The dogs are assistance dogs set to help all sorts of people with disabilities.

Saying that these dogs help doesn’t begin to scratch the surface of their importance.

“It’s really hard to articulate how important the dogs are,” paws4people Executive Director Kyria Henry said. “Many of these people would say that they wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for this opportunity to change their life, particularly our veterans.”

Henry says that the veteran suicide rate is about 22 a day.

So the hope for paws4people is that these dogs will help change and save some of those lives.
