Lifeguards on duty in Carolina Beach
As tropical storm Hanna continues to bring in strong winds and rip currents some area beaches are keeping their lifeguards on duty.
Lifeguards typically don’t patrol after Labor Day, but Carolina Beach will have three lifeguards and an ocean rescue captain on duty until this Sunday to deal with the effects of the storm.
Wrightsville Beach will keep all their lifeguards and ocean rescue members on duty, but they are removing the lifeguard stands from the beach in case the storm rolls through.
Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue, Jeremy Owens said, “Unless you are an experienced surfer or swimmer, we advise them to stay out of the water. And recognize their limitations and boundaries in the ocean, it can be very dangerous.”
Brunswick County beaches never have lifeguards on duty; the beaches there are ‘swim at your own risk.’
