Lifeguards try to save lives of animals

Calling all Wrightsville Beach lifeguards past and present; you’re being asked to save the lives of animals this time around.

This weekend, the town will host its 2009 Wrightsville Beach lifeguard reunion.

While former lifeguards share memories, they will also have a chance to adopt pets from the New Hanover County Shelter.

“They need a home. If we can do this and keep them from being put to sleep and anything happen to them, hopefully we can find them some good homes,” said retired lifeguard John Drewry.

The reunion kicks off this Saturday at the Wrightsville Beach Museum at 1:00 p.m.

Animals from the shelter will be available for rescue.
