ONLY ON 3: Local actor portrays NASCAR legend in new docuseries on CMT
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A local actor had the opportunity to portray NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt.
CMT is airing a three part series called “NASCAR: The Rise of American Speed,” a docuseries about the history of NASCAR. And Jeff Sandor, who lives in Winnabow and is from Fayetteville, played Dale Earnhardt for the docuseries.
Sandor said he has been acting for years landing roles on AMC’s Turn, Sleepy Hollow, Swamp Murders, House of Cards and several commercial spots.
He said his role as the NASCAR icon was a challenge because he had to play a real person as opposed to characters.
“Listening to the interviews, listening to people talk about him, working in the mirror trying to get that great smile that he had down,” said Sandor. “I mean but overall it was fun, it was grueling but it was a lot of fun to do it.”
“NASCAR: The Rise of American Speed” features several notable NASCAR drivers from the past and the present. It combines re-enactments, historical footage and interviews.
This Sunday Sandor’s episode will air on CMT at 9 p.m.
