Local church kids spread gospel in a bottle

WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) – Contemporary, organized religions are now evangelizing with email, web sites, Twitter, Facebook and Youtube, but the Youth Team of the Oleander United Methodist Church is sending messages in a plastic bottle dropped into the azure blue Gulf Stream 47-miles off Carolina Beach.

Seven girls and boys from the Oleander Church, 5810 Oleander Drive, are assembling Bible verse messages, pictures of themselves and other messages along with the front page of a recent edition of the Star News.

At dawn on Saturday, May 14, Captain Bob Stone of Southern Cross Charters, will embark on a fishing trip and sail to the Gulf Stream to drop the recyclable plastic bottle into the fast flowing waters of the Gulf Stream.

The Youth Team members have personal messages with their email addresses and telephone numbers with the objective that someone in the southern hemisphere of the Atlantic Ocean, or perhaps the Gulf of Mexico, will retrieve the bottle and its contents and respond.
