Local couples say ‘I do’ for free on Valentine’s Day
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It is Valentine’s Day and that means love is in the air! So what better way to celebrate love than to get married to your best friend?
Well, that is what several couples got to do for free in Wilmington Wednesday afternoon.
“I told her I’d change her name and I finally did,” groom, Michael Kiser said.
Michael and Deana Kiser were among the eight couples selected by the New Hanover County Register of Deeds for a free wedding.
“They can use that money that they were gonna use on a wedding on something else that’s more important,” Registrar, Tammy Beasley said. “Like putting food on the table or paying a light bill.”
From a beautiful room, cake, a photographer, a pastor, and a toast it was an overall joyous occasion.
“You know what every wedding is the most important wedding that I’ll ever do,” pastor, Skip Corbett said.
Deana said they got the wedding of their dreams.
“It’s been everything I hoped for and more. I’m just like totally excited,” Deana said. “It’s amazing and wonderful. And you couldn’t ask for a better day to get married on Valentine’s Day the day of love. And we’re always going to remember this for the rest of our lives.”
Valentine’s Day will now have a new meaning for the Kiser family.
“The number one thing is I won’t ever forget my anniversary,” Michael said.
The newlyweds said they are planning a big honeymoon with the money they saved.
Michael and Deana are heading to New York in October.
