Local film industry reacts to McCrory’s statement

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Gov. Pat McCrory says he will not be calling lawmakers back to Raleigh for legislation left behind by this year’s General Assembly session. This could mean curtains for the film industry.

Gov. McCrory said it would be a waste of taxpayer money to call a special session when there’s no agreement in place on key issues.

Some members of the film industry are afraid that this might mean Hollywood East would be no more.

” I’ve talked to tons of people in this industry personally that they live here now, and they’re already planning on moving,” said David Reid, a local actor. “Some of them have already moved to Atlanta. A couple to Louisiana. But it’s just taking away from this state so much. It’s absolutely ridiculous.”

The grant program that lawmakers voted on regarding North Carolina film will take effect at the start of next year, when the current film incentive expires.
