Local kids and law enforcement get ready for school

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — School is just around the corner and the Wilmington Elks Lodge and local law enforcement agencies teamed up give school supplies to kids in the area.

Money and school supplies were collected through the back to school buddy program hosted by the Wilmington Police and the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

It wasn’t just about school supplies. Law enforcement and those who work in the court system spoke to the students about the importance of education.

“It’s very good,” said Bryan Benoit., the Exalted Ruler of the Wilmington Elks Lodge. “It’s very overwhelming to see the support that we have for the kids in our community like we said they are our future and so we try to do everything we can to ensure their success in life.”

The school supplies will be distributed Saturday at the Martin Luther King Center.
