Local law enforcement agencies ball for unity in the community
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Local law enforcement took off their work shoes in exchange for sneakers as they hit the hardwood for a little friendly competition.
The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office laced up against the Wilmington Police Department Friday night.
The game tipped off at 7 p.m. following an All Star basketball game for 10 to 12 year-olds at the MLK Center.
The teams even had cheerleaders and stands full of fans. It was a fun night for all as they celebrated unity in the community.
“Just show them we’re like everybody else,” New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detective, Evan Luther said. “We’re out here to have a good time. You know, interact with everybody. Meet and greet people. Show the positive side of us that’s out here. And just have fun playing basketball.”
The MLK Center puts on events like this every year.
As for the winner, the sheriff’s office won 51-44 against the police department.
