Local non-profit raises funds for coffee shop owner with COVID-19

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Pleasure Island Habitat is at it again helping raise funds for a resident in need. This time there helping an island staple coffee shop owner get through Covid-19.

Janeen Williams, the owner of Majik Beanz Expresso, a coffee shop on Carolina Beach road, was recently diagnosed with coronavirus, according to a member of the Pleasure Island Habitat Organization.

The member, Bryant Bass, says Williams had to close her shop for a month due to coronavirus, so the non-profit hosted a BBQ fundraiser to raise money to help her.

“Janeen’s one of those people that would give her shirt off her back for anybody whether a stranger or person you know,” Bass said. “Every time you go in the shop she’s like ‘hey, do you know anybody who might have a walker? I know someone who needs a walker. Or we got a donation going for this family who doesn’t have any money for Christmas and we are trying to save up money for a PS2.’ So, Janeen has always been there for everybody so this is a chance for us to give back to her.”
