Local photographers will give back to Newtown community

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A group of local photographers has come up with a great way to help families in Newtown, CT, all while making a keepsake for your family.

The images are strong and still very much in our minds less than two weeks after the shootings in Newtown. Now one local group wants to send help from our community to theirs.

“After Newtown, CT, happened, a lot of us wanted to do something, and all of us felt inspired and our talent is photography, and we thought we would be able to give back that way,” photographer Ray Baca said. “There is a whole bunch of us in the town ready and excited and motivated to help.”

The local event is called Clicks for Kids, and it was inspired by one woman in Texas who just wanted to help.

“We were inspired by an anonymous photographer based out of Texas who wanted to do something after the tragedy in Connecticut. It’s called the Olivia Act, and it concentrates on the importance of family portraits, as one of the young victims had just had her family portrait taken,” Nichole Lupton, another local photographer working with the event, said. “We also wanted to take the additional step and not just donate portraits to people here in Wilmington. We wanted to make it a fundraiser to make money to send to Connecticut to do our part as well.”

The event is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, January 5, at 27 North Front Street on the third floor.

“If they go on our Facebook page and sign up, all they have to do is make a donation to one of the charities or funds that are set up for the Newtown, CT, families, and we will photograph them,” Baca said.
