Local runner wins Savannah marathon

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Rock-N-Roll marathon happened in Savannah, GA this weekend and the female winner was one of our own.

Tara Martine of Wilmington finished the more than 26 mile race in 2 hours and 59 minutes. Martine was one of thousands of runners to participate in the 4th annual race. She says she couldn’t have been more thrilled to be a part of a race she wasn’t sure she had a chance in.

“I kept going I tried to just not ever be alone in the race,” said Martine, “I just tried to catch up with someone and then at mile 22, when I caught the first woman, I was like alright I think I can do this.”

Martine has been a runner in Wilmington for years.
