Local store wins lottery incentive, pays it forward to area schools

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) —  A local Harris Teeter is paying it forward after receiving a big check from North Carolina Education Lottery. Now, that money will go to help thousands of local students.

Thanks to a generous donation by Harris Teeter on College Road five local schools received a $2,000 check for school supplies.

Schools included are Winter Park Model Elementary, Roland-Grise Middle, Hoggard High, College Park Elementary, and Rachel Freeman Elementary.

One recipient says the donation will help purchase needed items for the students and are so glad the community is investing in our kid’s education.

“It will go back into the classroom, to our students,” Hoggard High School PTSO President Shannon Pipkin said. “It will help with field trips. It will help supplement reading materials, and we purchased calculators for our students.”

The College road Harris Teeter recently sold a winning ticket, resulting in a $10,000 incentive award, which is going back to our area schools.
