Local teen to go to Super Bowl 50 through Make-A-Wish

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Super Bowl is a week away, but TJ White is already celebrating because he will have the opportunity to see it in person.

“I’m really into sports and football is one of my favorite sports and just the atmosphere, it’s so much fun to watch and play.”

He’s one of 14 kids, across the country, whose wishes were to go to the big game. Today, friends and family gathered for a celebratory dinner, as he officially received his “wish.”

“To be honest, I didn’t even know he was going until right now,” said TJ’s friend Cameron Lee. “I’m really excited for him, and I’m excited for the Panthers too, it’s going to be great!”

TJ is an active teen and plays tennis and soccer, while also swimming at Ashley High School. His dad, Tom White, said TJ doesn’t let his disorder slow him down.

“He was diagnosed with lupus nephritis, which is a kidney disorder, and that was when he was a freshman in high school,” White said.

TJ said he’s looking forward to seeing the game, but also seeing San Francisco for the first time. Make-A-Wish and Dr. Edralin Lenard of Knox Clinic Pediatrics sponsored TJ’s trip.
