Local artist speaks at Murray Middle School

Students at Murray Middle School visited with a local artist today.

Harry Davis, a Wilmington native, spoke to the students about his journey to becoming an artist. Davis, who first made a commitment to art after being wounded while serving in the army, draws on connection to Wilmington as the inspiration for some of his art work.

Davis says art is important in helping kids find an inner peace, “There’s something about art that just causes a person to relax, to be at ease, and I’ve never met a kid yet who didn’t show some kind of interest in visual art.”

Davis’ art has been shown in several galleries and has been selected in the past by the North Carolina Azalea Festival for the annual print.

Davis has also sold paintings to celebrities like Bill Cosby, Denzel Washington, and Halle Berry.
