Local doctor inducted into the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons

Southport – Board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon Eric Lescault, D.O., was recently one of only 667 physicians worldwide inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).

To receive this recognition, Dr. Lescault passed a rigorous comprehensive oral and written exam. He also demonstrated that in addition to medical school, he had received five years of specialty study in orthopaedics at an accredited residency program and that he was certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Lescault is a member of Orthopaedic Specialists with offices in Supply, Southport, Leland, Sunset Beach, and Carolina Beach. He received his medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, ME, and he completed his residency at Memorial Hospital in York, PA. Dr. Lescault then went on to complete his internship at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

After serving seven years on active duty with the United States Army, with deployments to Korea, Bosnia and Iraq, Dr. Lescault joined Orthopaedic Specialists, which is part of the Novant Medical Group, in 2007. He is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, North Carolina Medical Society, Brunswick County Medical Society and the Society of Military Orthopedic Surgeons.

He has special interest in minimally invasive surgical techniques, such as direct anterior total hip arthroplasty and hip resurfacing. Dr. Lescault is also highly skilled in advanced arthroscopic and open techniques of the shoulder, elbow, hip and knee. He is on medical staff at Brunswick Community Hospital and Dosher Memorial Hospital.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons is the largest medical association for musculoskeletal specialists. Dr. Lescault was inducted as a fellow of the AAOS on March 10, 2010, during ceremonies at the Academy’s 2010 Annual Meeting in New Orleans. The AAOS has 35,664 members worldwide.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons is a not-for-profit organization that provides education programs for orthopaedic surgeons, allied health professionals and the public. An advocate for improved patient care, the Academy is participating in the Bone and Joint Decade the global initiative to raise awareness of musculoskeletal health, stimulate research and improve people’s quality of life.
