Local gas prices still on the rise

For the first time ever, the national average for a gallon of regular gas is more than $4.

It’s a little less here in Wilmington, averaging about $3.93 according to AAA. That is high enough to get people to change their driving habits.

Though AAA reports our local average to be $3.93, the lowest prices WWAY could find were at Sam’s club on South College at $3.85. Most other places are charging $3.97 or $3.98.

People WWAY talked to said they are trying to drive less, and more efficiently.

New Hanover County resident Debbie Leitch said, “Well I try to organize my errands all in to one day so I can kind of run around all over and do it all at one time.”

The price at the pump shows no signs of coming down.

Analysts say they could reach $4.50 a gallon by the fourth of July.
