Local law enforcement to receive stimulus funds

Some area law enforcement agencies are getting federal funds to fight crime.

Representative Mike McIntyre announced today that more than $2.3 million is heading to southeastern North Carolina.

Bladen County, Bladenboro, Brunswick County, Carolina Beach, Chadbourn, Clinton, Columbus County, Leland, New Hanover County, Pender County, Wallace, Whiteville and Wilmington are just some of the agencies benefiting from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

It’s still too early to say how these local agencies will utilize the funding. Wilmington police originally wanted to use the money for technology upgrades, but might have to re-evaluate because of pending budget cuts.
