Local middle school students compete in electric car challenge

It’s never too early to learn about alternative energy, and a team of Murray Middle School students seems to have it down pat.

Casey Arthur, Alex Hazeltine, and Eric Dahlin recently took home the first place trophy for the 13th annual Electric Vehicle Challenge.

The three competed against 26 schools from across the state to design the fastest car possible using solar energy.

Eighth grader Eric Hazeltine said, “I learned that solar energy is a good efficient way to use on cars and that could help in the future.”

Math teacher Doug Towle was the project supervisor. He said lessons about conserving energy are invaluable.
