Local museum takes visitors on a trip to Christmas past

The Wilmington Burgwin-Wright house museum took visitors on a trip to Christmas past over the weekend.

The museum held its annual “Colonial Christmas” celebration. The 18th century home opened its doors and allowed visitors to experience a Christmas of years gone by. Attractions included traditional colonial dancers, an authentic spinning wheel demonstration and traditional colonial Christmas decorations. Of course, the main attraction is the house itself.

Burgwin-Wright house docent, Al Denn said “We have folks come through that come for the antiques that are really interested in the antiques. Then we have an equal number of people that come through that are really interested in the day-to-day life of the colonial period, which is really what we try to portray. We also say when we open the door, welcome to the 18th century.”

The home was built in 1770 and is the oldest museum house in southeastern North Carolina, and is decorated with original pieces from the pre-revolutionary period.
