Local workers thankful to have a job

Thanksgiving is a holiday for family time. That’s why it’s especially important to say thanks to the people who went into work.

WalMart employee Chris Griffin says he is thankful to have a job to go to.

“I’m grateful just to be working, considering the many others that are definitely out of work that could be working,” Griffin said.

Few businesses were open on Thanksgiving day, but where there was activity, workers were smiling. Most businesses closed early so employees still had the opportunity to enjoy some time with their loved ones.

Devinne Carmichael works the front desk at the Comfort Suites in Wilmington.

“It’s not too bad, I still get to go home for Thanksgiving dinner,” she said.

Employees at Lowe’s Foods made the best of their work day by helping folks prepare for their Thanksgiving feasts.

“Getting these people with their last minute groceries and getting them in and out as fast as possible,” said cashier Dave Rosenberg. “It’s about my eighth or ninth one I’ve worked at Lowe’s Foods, so I’m kinda used to it. It’s not bad, you only work a short day.”
