Locals ride motorcycles for charity

WILMINGTON — Locals are participating in a charity motorcycle ride from Boone to New Bern to raise money to help abused children.

Doris Eakes of Kure Beach is with the Trinity Children’s Foundation, sponsor of the ride.

A group of New Hanover County residents left Kure Beach Wednesday morning, bound for Boone to ride motorcycles 500 miles to New Bern.

Scheduled arrival in New Bern is Saturday 8/18 around noon. The objective is to raise money for local children’s charities.

One of the participants, local photographer, Ed Zirkle, says the group has already raised something in the neighborhood of $100,000.

Monies are being raised for the following local charities:

* Boys & Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw, NC
* The Carousel Center of Wilmington, NC

Funds are being administered by Trinity Children Foundation 910-458-7473

The following New Hanover County Sheriff’s Deputies are going to ride with the group:

* Deputy Joseph L. Jewel
* Deputy Daryl W. Taaffe

Ms. Taylor Goodell of Carolina Beach, UNCW student (class of 2011) will be driving the lead car in advance of the group of motorcyclists.
