Lock and dam submerged in Bladen County

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) —  The lock and dams in Bladen County are completely underwater.

Residents said the fields near the lock and dam have not been that submerged in water in it more than 50 years.

The water covers nearly the entire Locks Road in Elizabethtown at Lock and Dam #2. Where the road closure is, you should not even be able to see the Cape Fear River, but the whole area is flooded. Just down the road on MLK Drive, a bridge is out, because of a very large sinkhole.

Roger Ault said he has lived there all of his life and he has never seen anything like this.

“This is where we come all summer long,” Ault said. Our kids go swimming in this river and fish. It’s amazing.”

EMS Director Bradley Kinlaw said they are not sure if the lock and dam is broken, because there is so much water in this area. He said all of the locks and dams in Bladen County are submerged.
