“Long live the King”

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Monday, New Hanover High School students and faculty will go back to business as usual, but their lives will remain forever changed. The sudden New Year’s Day death of Dedric Queyshon Cordez King, known by many as “Q” or “Mo,” shook many lives, but Saturday, friends and family of King gathered in New Hanover High’s Brogden Hall to celebrate his life.

Close friend, Samod Chandler, said he finds comfort in knowing King is in a better place.
“He just meant everything to everybody. Smart kid, athletic, he was goin’ places with his life. It’s really sad that things had to end this way, but God got His plan for everybody. I’m going to miss him though. I love that man to death. I miss him.”

Members of the Hoggard Vikings football team, put aside rivalry to present a special shirt to King’s family. Different school colors, ages, and races filled the New Hanover gym. King’s fellow football players and New Hanover’s “Coach Mot” presented his jersey and a signed football in remembrance of their teammate.
