Loved ones remember students killed in fire at beach house

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Family and friends are remembering the seven college students killed in a fire at a house in Ocean Isle Beach.

Six University of South Carolina students and one Clemson University student died early Sunday.

Family members say three victims were members of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and three belonged to the Delta Delta Delta sorority at USC. Several were from the Greenville area and attended high school together.

Six USC students escaped.

The family of Chip Auman of Hartsville owns the house. Auman says there are no words to describe what he’s going through. His daughter’s being treated for smoke inhalation at a Hartsville hospital.

Ocean Isle Beach Mayor Debbie Smith says investigators think the fire started on or near a deck behind the house.
