Lower gas prices helpful for stations and drivers alike
Life is a little bit better for people filling up at the pumps, but it’s not too bad for gas station owners either.
With prices now less than two dollars a gallon, stations are paying much lower wholesale prices. When gas was four dollars a gallon, stations were paying nearly two hundred dollars a barrel, but now it’s about forty dollars.
That means drivers aren’t seeing record prices anymore, when they go to fill up.
Louise Tarlton, a Shell station owner said, “You’re paying more than forty dollars for a full tank, then you are all of a sudden paying twenty. That’s a big percentage.”
With falling oil and wholesale prices, retailers like the Shell station on Third Street can gradually lower their prices even more.
