Lumberton city council member charged with rape is out on bond

LUMBERTON (AP) — The Lumberton city council member accused of raping an 18-year-old woman in Kentucky is out on bond.

John Cantey Jr. posted a $100,000 cash bond after spending 11 days in jail. A spokeswoman for the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections says Cantey was released Tuesday.

The 46-year-old Cantey was arrested October 20 in Louisville and charged with first-degree rape in connection with an incident that the woman says occurred at a hotel in Jeffersontown, Kentucky.

Cantey was traveling with the rap artist Juvenile, who had performed in Frankfort, Kentucky.

Lumberton police say that when Cantey returned home this week, he found his house had been ransacked, with more than $3,500 of property taken.
