Lumberton city councilman says he’s innocent of rape

LUMBERTON (AP) — A city council member in Lumberton is asking the public to wait before judging him because he says he is innocent of a rape charge.

John Cantey Junior was charged with rape of an 18-year-old woman in Jeffersontown, Kentucky. The 46-year-old Cantey is being held on $100,000 bond.

Cantey tells the Robesonian newspaper that he didn’t have sex with the woman and doesn’t know anything about her.

The police chief in the Louisville suburb says Cantey and the woman were traveling with the rapper Juvenile.
