Major food recall getting bigger

A major food recall is getting even bigger. The maker of canned chili is adding more products to the recall.

So far, more than 80 different types of canned meat products have been recalled, linked to an outbreak of botulism, a paralyzing disease that can be deadly.

Many are still sitting on shelves in stores, potentially putting consumers at risk.

Dr. David Acheson with the Food & Drug Administration said, “Many FDA investigators, along with USDA investigators, have been working long hours over the weekend, to get the message out, to figure out what’s going on.”

Castleberry’s, the company that makes the products, traced the problem to a plant in Georgia, which is now shut down.

Recalled products include beef stew, barbecue pork and chili, sold under a variety of brand names and some types of natural element dog food.

Castleberry’s says if you have the products, dispose of them immediately in a double plastic bag.
