Major-leaguers shoot how-to guide at UNCW

WILMINGTON — Some major league baseball players were in Wilmington Sunday for another kind of game.

Former Seahawks baseball player and coach Trent Mongero was at UNCW’s Brooks Field along with some major-leaguers to shoot a how-to guide about playing baseball.

Mongero said, “UNCW was gracious enough to allow us to use the facility, so we would have a fabulous field to execute all the skills and have a nice back drop for all those photos.”

The 12-disc DVD series and book is called “A Major League Guide to Amateur Baseball.” It’s geared toward teaching coaches, parents and players everything about America’s favorite pastime, from tee-ball all the way up to college baseball.

UNCW alum and Cleveland Indian Trot Nixon was also on hand to show his support for the project.

Nixon said, “I’m just out here in support of Trent Mongero and the baseball information, he’s putting together I know three books on kids starting off from tee ball all the way up.”

The book and DVD series are expected to be released in January 2009.
