Man accused of breaking into Wilmington home, raping woman


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man is in jail, accused of breaking into a home early Thursday morning and raping a woman.

It happened in the 400 block of Walnut Street just before 6:30 a.m.

Wilmington Police spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay say the female victim told someone about the sexual assault, who then called 911 and said someone had broken into the victim’s home and assaulted her.

When police officers arrived, they found Richard Emerson Logan, 25, still inside the home.

Lindsay says Logan became combative and assaulted an officer. He was arrested and taken to the Wilmington Police Department where detectives interviewed him and took out several warrants.

Logan faces the following charges:

  • 2nd degree rape
  • 1st degree burglary
  • assault on company/campus police officer
  • 2nd degree sexual offense
  • sexual battery
  • resist/delay/obstruct public officers

Logan is in jail under a $325,500 bond.
