Man accused of knocking man out at bar

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police charged a man for simple assault for an early-morning fight.

They say Ryan Bradford Shumate punched a man again and again until he passed out. It happened at the Slice of Life on Market Street around 2 a.m.

Police say Shumate continued to hit the unconscious victim several more times, but the 24-year-old claims he only hit the victim after the other man sexually harassed and touched his wife inappropriately. Shumate says he does not think he hit the man after he was knocked unconscious.

Shumate was arrested for an outstanding warrant and simple assault.
