Man accused of raping child in Wilmington arrested in Georgia

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man wanted by Wilmington Police for several sex crimes involving a child has been arrested in Georgia.

WPD says the US Marshal Task Force arrested Augustin Garcia, 65, in Banks County, GA, for several warrants stemming from a WPD investigation. Garcia was wanted in connection with a report of sex offenses allegedly committed against a minor in May, June and July of this year, according to a WPD news release.

Police say Garcia left the state and traveled through other states in the southeast until he was arrested yesterday.

Garcia is charged with four counts each of first-degree rape, indecent liberties with a minor, incest with a child under 13 and crimes against nature.

He is currently in the Banks County jail. Investigators say he has waived extradition to Wilmington to face the charges.
