Man accused of starving, killing dog


BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A man is in jail under a $50,000 bond on animal cruelty charges.

Jail records show James Jarett Roof, 26, was booked at around 11 a.m. in the Brunswick Co. Jail. According to the arrest warrant, Roof is accused of intentionally depriving food from a female Pit Bull mix. The dog did not survive.

A Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said a veterinarian determined the cause of death was a combination of malnourishment and the cold conditions. The date of offense was Tuesday.
